Two X-Men Shows Being Developed At FOX
“Legion” will follow the story of David Haller, a seemingly normal man until he is diagnosed with schizophrenia. David has a mental illness which started when he was a teenager. He later realized that the visions and voices that categorized him as insane may actually be real.
Both Hellfire and Legion are rooted in X-Men comics by Chris Claremont, and both have Bryan Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Jim Chory and Jeph Loeb on board as executive producers.
With Marvel’s various TV productions-including Daredevil, Agents of SHIELD and the upcoming Jessica Jones-causing such a buzz, it was only a matter of time before a few of their biggest properties made their way to television.
“Legion is just the sort of ambitious story that Noah excels at”, Nick Grad president of original programing and FX Productions, said. Fox and Marvel Entertainment, which will be teaming up to bring “Legion” and “Hellfire”, revealed only a few details, and fortunately, these included their pilot synopses.
A separate Fox series is in development based on classic X-Men villains the Hellfire Club – who played a key role in the iconic “Dark Phoenix Saga” and were previously featured in the live-action film X-Men: First Class.
While we don’t know if this deal is true, it makes an incredible amount of sense for both parties.
Den Of Geek say an “unprecedented deal” struck between Fox and Marvel has seen the two studios swap – FF for the TV rights to X-Men.
Plans for two different X-Men TV series have been revealed today by Marvel. (So, not us and probably not you.) The first show is Legion, and it will be written and executive produced by Fargo creator Noah Hawley. The action at the center of “Hellfire’ will be dynamic and will satisfy the rabid fans, but that said, newcomers will surely be addicted too”.
The character of Legion and the concept of Marvel’s Hellfire Club were introduced by writer Chris Claremont.
“Hellfire” is a spinoff of the X-Men TV series. In the comics, David is the son of X-Men founder Charles Xavier (aka Professor X) and Israeli Holocost survivor Gabrielle Haller. Donner, Singer, Kinberg, Loeb, and Chory will once more serve as co-producers. McKay and Payne (Star Trek Beyond) are writing the pilot.
You can not throw a pebble without it hitting a couple of Marvel comics superheroes these days, and it’s about to get a lot more crowded.
