Seahawks FB Derrick Coleman arrested for vehicular assault, hit-and-run
Authorities say the auto Coleman was driving struck another vehicle and he walked away from the crash.
Coleman gained notoriety as the first legally deaf player to play on offense in the National Football League, serving as an inspirational figure in the deaf community.
Seattle Seahawks fullback Derrick Coleman is being held without bail under investigation of vehicular assault and felony hit-and-run. Coleman was arrested near the scene of the accident. He was arrested without incident.
He appeared in just five games in that season, landing on season-ending injured reserve after breaking his foot during pregame warmups in Seattle’s Week 7 matchup with the St. Louis Rams. There was no indication on the report if he was intoxicated, the source said. He has one yard on two carries this season.
Coleman, who became deaf when he was 3 years old and has served as an inspiration to others, was a part of the Seahawks Super Bowl XLVIII championship team. “We don’t really know why”.
The 6-feet-tall, 233-pound fullback was signed to the Seahawks practice team in 2012, before making the 53-man roster for the 2013 season, according to the team’s website.
