The move to install checkpoints followed a decision by Netanyahu’s security cabinet overnight authorising police to seal off or impose a curfew on parts of Jerusalem. Erdan suggested the attackers be buried without fanfare in distant cemeteries where Palestinian killers have previously been buried.
The clashes erupted last month at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem’s Old City and quickly spread across Israel and into the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
At least 31 Palestinians have been killed for attacking Israelis or throwing rocks and firebombs at Israeli soldiers.
