Body recovered believed to be Baby Chance
According to deputies, Kristen Bury and Joseph Walsh have lied to them about what happened to their son.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office recovered the body of an infant believed to be that of Chance Walsh this afternoon in North Port. We have been investigating his disappearance since Sunday, October 4th.
“We received information directing us to a location on Elliot Court and we have confirmed our worst fears”, Knight said.
The sheriff’s office says it will work with the medical examiner for a positive identification.
She and the boy’s paternal grandmother made a number of unsuccessful attempts to check on Chance’s welfare because his parents, Bury, 32, and Walsh, 36, are longtime drug users, according to the sheriff’s office. Last week, the couple traveled to South Carolina where they got into a vehicle accident.
The couple landed in South Carolina, where one of them applied for a job, officials said. The pair have told multiple stories to police and family, about where Chance is. The couple, the sheriff’s office said, provided conflicting reports about Chance in relation to the crash.
Authorities met a woman staying at a hotel in Augusta, Georgia who reported that Bury tried to sell baby clothes to her, claiming the baby had died three weeks earlier. Still another relative was told the baby was given to a women at a hotel in Georgia. They said the baby was killed in the crash and also said they gave the baby away to a stranger. It is unclear whether they’ll face additional charges after the baby’s Friday discovery.
