Quest For More entered for Geelong Cup
Strapper Glen Barnes with Royal Descent. Tommy Berry has been listed as Quest For More’s rider in the Caulfield Cup as well as being put down to ride the Ed Dunlop trained Trip To Paris.
“She told me “I am not doing that to this horse… she can’t run in a Caulfield Cup again”.
“When the draw came out I was getting all these phone calls and texts from people saying, “oh no, she’s drawn 22”, Boss said. It was a robust discussion.
Oliver had his first ride on Snow Sky at Werribee on Sunday and said it was good to see the horse had arrived and settled in well going into the Caulfield Cup.
“When I rode him last week I had to ride him the whole way round to get him to work three-quarter pace, but today he travelled and did it mostly by himself”.
“[Claire] and Chris had the Myer [Classic] picked out for [Royal Descent] and wanted to go there”.
Caulfield Cup first emergency Quest For More is among the 44 entries for the Geelong Cup.
“I was like, “I’ve got more important things to do at the moment, I’m playing golf”.
“He’s very good at having them ready for the big event – he does it too often for it to be a fluke; it’s not a fluke, we know that”, Boss said.
Trainer Chris Waller (right) talks with jockey Blake Shinn.
She has been a runner-up in the George Main Stakes for the past three years as well as seconds in an Epsom and a Doncaster, a race she was third in this year.
“People like her”, Harvey said.
“When they start making the runs down the far straight, I’d like to tag onto something and she can get in that way”.
“If Preferment was there on the weekend he would be favourite”, Boss said.
“If she gets stopped and started, and they walk and pull-up, I don’t think she can be. I’m not anxious about the gate because I think we are going to end up in the same position in the run anyway”.
Fame Game, who is bidding to become the second Japanese victor of the Melbourne Cup after the success of Delta Blues in 2006, takes on 17 rivals at Caulfield on Saturday including British raiders Snow Sky and Trip To Paris.
“She is a different mare this time – you just have to look at her and the way she does things”, Waller said.
“We’re out of [barrier] 13, might be into nine – but she’ll be out”.
Waller said he was disappointed that Whot Shot Thebarman and Royal Descent had drawn the outside barriers because “they are both good horses and capable of running in the money”.
