Study Says People Who Take Coffee Black Have Psychopathic Tendencies
If you prefer bitter tastes, you may have psychopathic traits.
Like black coffee? Then you could well be a disgusting person.
Nevertheless, the Huffington Post says researchers hope that this study will help them look at the connection between eating behavior and personality traits in further studies. People could very well have been reporting the characteristics they wish they had, rather than the ones they actually possess.
Want your coffee black? That guy was an undeniable dick, and even though one dude isn’t a reliable sample size, he did make a compelling anecdotal argument. Offer him cream and sugar in his coffee. The Innsbruck University scientists tested over 1,000 people during their study.
The study found that the participants who preferred more bitter tastes in foods like black coffee scored higher on a series of personality questionnaires that measured qualities like narcissism, aggression and sadism.
A group of 500 men and women were shown a list of food and drink items categorized as bitter, sweet, sour and salty. “The Dark Triad measures were borrowed in this analysis “(narcissism, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism), everyday sadism (verbal, physical, and vicarious), as well as Big Five personality traits, which include extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and openness”.
It’s unclear as to why this correlation is apparently in existence, though Sagioglou put forward the theory that those who enjoy bitterly tasting foods could also like roller coasters and other activities that induce fear.
“Positively associated with malevolent personality traits, with the most robust relation to everyday sadism and psychopathy.”
The study adds insight into learning how bitter foods and personality work together.
Subjects assessed such statements as “Given enough provocation, I may hit someone”.
