Chippewa Falls police warn about area IRS scam
According to information presented by Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson in a press release, a few of the scammers even recite the victim’s mailing address or last four digits of their Social Security Number.
Also, there is an IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center in Yakima located at 107 S. 7th Avenue where people can speak with an IRS representative.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office is reporting a scam that has resurfaced during the past few weeks.
“We’ve had a lot of complaints about it. It’s been a pretty common scam for quite a while now”, Hodapp said.
The frauds told the victims to wire money via Western Union to someone in Salt Lake City.

Yakima police say this is not how the IRS operate, and to not fall for this. Taxpayers are urged not to be confused or misled by sites claiming to be the IRS but ending in.com, .net, .org or other designations instead of.gov. Taxpayers should never provide personal information, financial or otherwise, to suspicious websites or odd phone calls.
These scam artists may threaten police arrest, deportation or license revocation and leave “urgent” callback requests, sometimes through “robo-calls”, via phone or email.

Grieman said those who receive calls can also contact the Federal Trade Commission to file a complaint.
