Army jawan killed while trying to foil infiltration bid
A SOLDIER was killed in an encounter with terrorists as Army troops foiled an infiltration attempt from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district on Wednesday afternoon.
“A suspicious movement was observed at around 1500 hrs along the Line of Control and operation was launched by alert troops, ” S N AcharyaOfficiating Defence Spokesman, Ministry of Defence here said.
Official sources told IndiaToday.in that Sepoy Lance Naik Govind Singh of 9 Para regiment was critically injured when the infiltrators fired upon Army’s search party after being challenged at forward area in Balnoie of KG sector.
During the ensuing gunbattle, troops killed a militant and recovered his body, he said. The entire area has been cordoned off and a strict vigil is being maintained, the defence sources said. It claimed that four army men were killed and an officer injured in the attack.
He said the grenade exploded near the picket causing minor injuries to a jawan who has been shifted to Drugmulla Army hospital.
They said five vehicles have also suffered damage as their window panes due to the impact of the blast.
“A contact was established with terrorists and they opened fire”.
The protesters alleged that the civilians were injured in the firing by the security forces.
