The 67-year-old Clinton was keen to inject excitement into her campaign and show she can rally the Democratic base, while Sanders was testing whether his “political revolution” can translate to the national stage. He denied that his affiliation as a democratic socialist, and the fact that he says he’s not a capitalist, would make him unelectable, noting he had demonstrated an ability to enlist the enthusiastic support of young people. “So he’s got to decide, ‘Am I going to enter the race?” You honeymooned in the Soviet Union.
The answers were just the kind you might expect. Sanders replied. “No, I don’t”.
Again, you see Clinton and Sanders dominating. Anderson Cooper asks Sanders and O’Malley what they think but noticeably fails to ask Hillary.
“When I was young, I was involved in a civil rights demonstration and I was arrested”, he said.
Hillary Clinton’s immediate response is what surprised me.
“We are not Denmark”. I love Denmark. We are the United States of America. There are no such things as excesses of capitalism.
Sanders described it as “the worst foreign policy blunder in the history of this country”.
“I’m not going to comment on labels other people apply to themselves”, said Clinton, who labels herself a “progressive Democrat”.
According to an aggregate poll by political website Real Clear Politics, Mrs Clinton continues to be the Democratic front runner nationally with 43.3 per cent of support, while Mr Sanders has 25.1 per cent.
Formed to investigate the 2012 attacks on a USA diplomatic mission in Libya, the committee has turned its attention to Clinton’s emails.
She noted the debate was “very civilized” and that there was “no denigration of women as we have seen in the past”.
At a nature preserve, Clinton spoke to a nighttime audience that included many African Americans and Hispanics – key constituencies for the former secretary of state and former New York senator. “He valued my judgment”.
