Lamar Odom’s condition has worsened

After ex-NBA and reality TV star Lamar Odom was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel from a drug overdose, his condition has reportedly worsened.

There were reports Wednesday night that he was improving, but on Thursday TMZ reported that his condition has worsened:

Lamar Odom’s condition has deteriorated, and doctors are now telling the family the longer he remains in the condition he’s in the less likely it is that he will recover.

As of Thursday morning, our sources say Lamar has shown no signs of consciousness or improvement. We’re told 4 organs, including his kidneys, continue to fail. Our sources say doctors have been clear … the fact that Lamar is not getting better significantly reduces his chances of survival.

TMZ reports that there was initially optimism after Odom squeezed the hand of his ex-wife Khloé Kardashian Wednesday night, but doctors are now worried that it’s taking too long for his condition to improve.

According to E!, which airs the popular Kardashian reality series, the couple signed divorce papers in July but are still legally married until a judge approves them.

“She had been thinking of him as an ex, so to find out that, ‘No, you have to do this, ‘ well that’s really hard for her”, the magazine quoted the source as saying.

Odom’s former brother-in-law, Rob Kardashian, also expressed concern.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson, who visited Odom on Wednesday morning, said the former basketball star was on life support and is not conscious.

Odom’s father and two children are with him at the hospital, the source said.

“He is in a real hard situation”, Jackson told reporters.

Workers at Dennis Hof’s Love Ranch say the former athlete – who is said to have a 50/50 chance at survival – had been using cocaine in the days before the incident.

He was to be flown by helicopter about 80 miles southeast to Las Vegas but had to be taken by ambulance because he couldn’t fit into the aircraft.

It was rumoured at the time that Odom was struggling with substance abuse issues and had cheated on his wife.

“He didn’t indicate what he wanted to get away from but was adamant he wanted no phone calls, don’t acknowledge he was here, wanted rest and relaxation”, she said.

Odom spent most of his 14-year National Basketball Association career in Los Angeles with the Lakers and Clippers, becoming a fan favorite before he sought even more fame with the Kardashians.

He played on the 2009 and 2010 Los Angeles Lakers championship teams.

A year later, he played briefly for the Dallas Mavericks before returning to the Clippers for one season. He has not played in the National Basketball Association since then, though the New York Knicks signed him during the off-season a year ago, only to cut him three months later.

Odom had two children during those years, Destiny and Lamar Jr., with an ex-girlfriend, Liza Morales. He pleaded no contest to drunk driving after an arrest in August 2013.
