Water main break at busy Bethesda intersection complicates morning commute
A large water main break Tuesday afternoon resulted in flooding at the intersection of Rockville Pike and Cedar Lane in Bethesda, causing a traffic nightmare on the heavily traveled road and throughout downtown Bethesda.
Repairs are expected to continue throughout the morning commute – a problem for drivers in the busy stretch of roadway, which is near the National Institute of Health. However, northbound traffic on Rockville Pike reopened to traffic at around 3:50 p.m. while southbound lanes at the intersection remains closed.
The north gate at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center is closed due to the break. Check out WSSC’s website for more details on flushing after a water main break. The 16-inch water main break was close to being fixed early Wednesday morning but when crews tested it they found leaks.
