Kauai drowning victim ID’d as ABC News doctor
The visitor from New York who drowned Monday in waters off Lumahai Beach on Kauai’s North Shore has been identified as a doctor and reporter from ABC News’ medical unit.
Zimmerman, a medical doctor, was alone and attempting to cross the Lumahai River on Kauai’s North Shore when she slipped, Goldston said in a memo to staff. “It was a awful and tragic accident”. Zimmerman’s mother confirmed her death on Facebook.
According to her ABC News boss James Golston, Jamie also researched stories for the network’s medical unit and also offered meditation sessions for ABC News staff in New York. ‘It’s as if she knew her time was limited and she was trying to fit it all in!
“In her short 31 years Jamie traveled the globe representing America as a caring mindfulness ambassador”, Jordan Zimmerman wrote.
Jamie Zimmerman attended UCLA for her undergraduate degree, where she was awarded the Charles E. Young Humanitarian Award, and earned her medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
Her final Facebook post, added Monday, Jamie included this picture taken in Kauai. She served as a United Nations Global Health representative in Haiti. Most recently she interviewed Deepak Chopra and had planned to collaborate with him on his new project. She had also made a documentary on Congolese refugee camps.
Jordan concluded her tribute with a touching personal message to Jamie: ‘Sweet dreams, my darling daughter, my sweet pea, my role model, my pride and joy!
I hope my baby girl’s life will inspire you to take action to make our world better. Always know that I will miss you every second, minute, and hour of every day. It can be as little as sharing a smile or kind word or as big as your imagination and effort will allow. According to a biography on her website, she performed on television shows such as “7th Heaven” and “Boston Public” when she was a teenager. This is Jamie’s legacy.
