Johnson has 2 TD receptions, leads Colts over Texans 27-20
So when Thursday rolled around, and the odds for Texan redemption seemingly improved with the Colts’ having to start Matt Hasselbeck at quarterback because of Andre Luck’s shoulder injury, I thought to myself “Good, here’s their chance to prove me wrong”. But Johnson said the game wasn’t about revenge at all. It wasn’t until Vinatieri drilled a 42-yard field goal on the ensuing Colts possession that the Texans mounted their comeback, with Hoyer entering to lead a 12-play, 62-yard drive culminating in a Nick Novak field goal. He connected on 24-of-31 passes for 312 yards, two TDs and an interception, including a Hail Mary scoring pass at the end of the first half. Because Matt Hasselbeck played well on Thursday night for a quarterback, but he played really well for a sickly, 40-year-old man.
Instead, he turned in a gem.
“I think [with] that first game, I’m sure he put a lot of pressure on himself, and I think you probably saw that”, O’Brien said of Hoyer. For a few unknown reason I was able to finish. “I can’t explain it. Its been an emotional day”.
Bolstered by a smart game plan that mostly kept him clear of J.J. It’s not time to pass the torch yet, but Carr and Cooper have their oven mits on order for next season. According to Colts coach Chuck Pagano it was a miracle he even played.
The Browns have three quarterbacks on their roster and, without a doubt, are starting the worst one every week. He is 8-of-13 for 127 yards, one touchdown, and a 119.7 passer rating. The Colts tried Toler in the first half and Davis in the second, to no avail. But the Texans find themselves in a three-games-under-.500 sinkhole and have yet to play the kind of ball they envisioned in the off season.
The Jets finished with 207 yards rushing, including 34 from Fitzpatrick, and 425 total yards on offense. The biggest game of the Colts season is always against the Patriots, and for as great as Hasselbeck has played the past two weeks, they need Luck to beat Tom Brady and the Patriots. The Cardinals should see that three points as an insult they most rectify by dropping 30 or so in the first half.
A report while talking about the important match says, “The Colts clearly made the right call in starting Hasselbeck”.
Ryan Mallett started since then, but he also has struggled and Hoyer took over in both of the last two games as the Texans fell to 1-4. Moore was flagged for roughing the passer.
Hoyer played very well.
Still, Houston nearly has to stick with Hoyer now. It’s not. The defense is a ceaseless headache, as well, regardless of Watt and Clowney and Vince Wilfork up front.
-WR DeAndre Hopkins had a monster performance in the absence of veterans Cecil Shorts III and Nate Washington, recording 11 receptions on 14 targets for 169 yards. He needed a lot more help from his teammates.
Johnson was back in Houston on Thursday night and his productivity returned.
Hasselbeck took advantage of the field position to drive Indy for the winning score.
At least Tennessee pushed a close-to-full-strength Colts team to the wire, losing on a failed two-point conversion in the final seconds.
But for as much as his coaches and teammates were gushing about his performance, no one was gushing more than the flu-ridden Hasselbeck this week. And yet the Jaguars couldn’t win the game.
