Twitter Poaches Google’s Omid Kordestani, Names Him As Executive Chairman
“Omid is a proven & experienced leader, who will directly help & coach me and our leadership, and help us recruit the best folks to Twitter“, the company’s newly appointed CEO Jack Dorsey wrote in a tweet. The search giant had granted Kordestani 225,588 restricted Class C shares that vest over time, after he was named business chief last summer.
Following the formation of Alphabet, his role of chief business executive was nulled and he was offered a role in the board of advisors of the two separate entities of the company without a specific title.
Kordestani was, until now, working as the chief business executive at Google.
Kordestani’s extensive sales experience at Google would prove a good complement to Dorsey’s product knowledge, analysts said. He left after a decade but returned in 2014 as chief business officer and was Google’s highest-paid executive that year, making nearly $130m (£84m).
“We’re excited for Omid and very happy for Twitter”.
As fitting for a CEO of Twitter, Dorsey’s announcement of this newest addition to the company’s leadership came in the form of a tweet.
Twitter said last week it would hire an outsider as chairman to allay concerns about Dorsey’s dual role as head of mobile payments company Square Inc, which is reportedly planning an IPO.
At one point, Google was rumored to be interested in buying Twitter. Formerly named Project Lightning, Moments is squarely aimed at the millions of consumers who have yet to embrace Twitter in its current – and what many call confusing – form. “Omid was instrumental in establishing Google’s business and helped us develop really close, longstanding partnerships across the industry”, the spokesperson said. We are doing this with the utmost respect for each and every person. Mr. Jack Dorsey announced the news in a tweet.

Mr. Kordestani is no longer affiliated with Alphabet or Google, according to a Twitter spokesman.
