Roethlisberger, Brown, Steeler Nation — Steelers News
Though the prognosis initially looked grim, with the possibility Ben would be out for the year, it turned out to be an MCL sprain and bone bruise that will keep him out for several weeks. Since that time veteran backup Michael Vick has looked shaky at best.
The uneven play has rumors of tension in the Pittsburgh Steelers locker room, and that may be starting to bubble over, the Sporting News noted.
“I think defenses key in on him, put more than two guys on him”, said Roethlisberger.
Steelers WR Antonio Brown said Mike Vick needs to be more aggressive in the passing game. The offensive coordinator said the Steelers are still trying to get Brown the ball, but pointed out that coverage can prevent it from happening. “As long as we win”. While Brown is trying not to complain, he is letting Vick know that he is ready to make plays if he throws him the ball.
Brown added that Vick appears to be afraid of testing the double teams that the receiver regularly sees.
So while it’s charming that he’s tough and gritty and wants to play, he’s clearly better when he feels better.
“So that’s what I’ve said and that’s in no way being conservative or playing not to lose”.
Part of that is basic human decency, and part of it is pragmatic – as he kind of stinks when he hurries himself back from injury.
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger participated in practice on Thursday. Roethlisberger practiced on a limited basis Wednesday and could return for the team’s Week 7 visit to Kansas City. He said he is able to throw fine and move straight forward. “But it’s evident I do need the ball”. The biggest loser with Vick on the field is Antonio Brown who has been quiet since Roethlisberger went down.
Wheaton was also asked to recall how that long pass play call came about after reports and quotes surfaced after the game indicated that Roethlisberger had a big role in it. “But he’s definitely showing signs of coming back”.
Sunday’s game against Arizona could mark Vick’s last game as a starter.
