At least 26 dead as Boko Haram bombs worshippers in Maiduguri mosque
Hundreds of people have been killed after suicide bombers attacked mosques in Maiduguri, Borno capital, on Thursday, October 15.
An other official of the Civilian JTF, who gave his name as Bamusa, told PREMIUM TIMES that “the blasts happened in a mosque during Magrib prayer and many people were killed, sadly”.
“While the number of deaths is about 14 so far, including the two bombers, casualties have been evacuated to UMTH and Specialist Hospitals in Maiduguri”. “Not a single one escaped”.
The Police have confirmed residents’ belief that the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber.
A senior official of the Civilian JTF, who asked not to be named in this report, said the two blasts happened near a mosque in Mulai, a few 6 kilometres away from Maiduguri town along the Maiduguri-Biu highways.
One of the attackers set off the first blast when he entered the mosque, they said. Nigeria has intensified its crackdown on Boko Haram as the terrorist group continues to wreak havoc across the country through bombings, raids and kidnappings.
“The mosque can accommodate at least 40 people at a time but I don t know whether many people were inside at the time of the incident”, Ahmadu, the trader, said.
SaharaReporters has learned of a suicide bombing near a market in the Molai neighborhood of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
“At about 7.41 pm on Tuesday, there were Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion in three locations at the outskirt of Maiduguri”.
Nigeria’s military claims the Islamist militants are a spent force and that troops have driven them from their camps and occupied territory in the remote region.
At least 17,000 people have been killed and more than 2.5 million made homeless since the group began its bloody campaign for an Islamic state in northeast Nigeria.
