Scottsdale offers help for those with domestic-violence warrants
YWCA North Central Indiana and CAPS are partnering for October – Domestic Violence Awareness Month – to tie purple ribbons around the necks of as many Elk Art on Parade statues around Elkhart County as we can. Additionally, domestic violence costs the nation billions of dollars annually in medical expenses, police and court costs, shelters, foster care, sick leave, absenteeism, and non-productivity.
“One of the biggest things that we are trying to do is raise awareness about domestic violence”, said Hamilton. Early next year, The Center (formerly known as The Center for Women and Families) will take the final steps to become Connecticut’s first comprehensive family justice center, and one of only 100 FJCs operating all over the world. Children who grow up in violent homes are more likely to have difficulty in school, be involved in criminal activity and substance abuse.
Troopers say cases are widespread across all social groups, including cases among various races, ages, and genders. The presence of a gun in domestic violence situations increases the risk of homicide by 500 percent. Students will write on a purple heart and they will be hung on the wall of the atrium.
Bluff Country Family Resources in Hokah serves people who experience domestic and sexual violence. All with a common goal, and a very strong message. “We hope they can spread that education as well”. Guest speakers will talk about Domestic Violence in the community and how the community is responding to it. The Candlelight Vigil will end with the lighting of candles and a moment of silence to remember the victims.
We operate a 24-hour crisis line staffed by trained advocates.
