Nation pays tribute to Kalam on his 84th Birth Anniversary

Kalam had joined DRDO in 1982 and he gave services for almost two decades.

Kalam died of a massive cardiac arrest on July 27 this year in Meghalaya.

Union ministers Manohar Parrikar, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Harsh Vardhan were among the dignitaries present on the occasion.

Modi announced that the government has acquired land in Kalam’s birthplace to build a memorial for him. The Government of India has determined that that statue of Dr. Kalam shall be constructed within the villages the place he was born and the place he breathed his final.

PM Modi talked about his relationship with APJ and added that when he was Chief Minister of Gujarat APJ used to guide him in dire situations like Gujarat quake and others. The prime minister said the DRDO should organise seminars for innovators, young scientists, people with scientific temper, students and young scientists. Narendra Modi called on India to take the lead in tackling global challenges like cyber crime. “We want it to be an inspiration for future generations”, Modi said at a function to mark Kalam’s birth anniversary.

Recalling Kalam’s visits to the IIM-Shillong and his lectures to the students, De said a 2,000-square feet auditorium with a seating capacity of 200 will be set up in the institute in Kalam’s name.
