Lehigh University latest to rescind Cosby’s honorary degree
Hill is the fourth to sue him for defamation. In December, amid widening allegations, Cosby resigned from the board of trustees of Temple University in Philadelphia. Cosby settled the lawsuit in November, 2006. Hill alleges that she first met Cosby when he was searching for a “co-host for an episode of the television show “Picture Pages”, an educational children’s television show hosted by Cosby and produced by Walt Disney”.
Cosby hired her and shortly afterward began flying her to cities where he was performing, including Denver, Atlantic City, New Jersey, and New York.
“Once Cosby finished his show, or business, Renita would be summoned to his room”.
Hill, who at the time was Renita Chaney, claims that when she would arrive at the hotel during these trips, there would be an alcoholic beverage waiting for her to consume.
Most of the time, Hill claims, she would lose consciousness after taking the drink and later wake up in her room “oftentimes nude, disheveled, confused and disoriented”.
As details about Cosby drugging and sexually assaulting dozens of women have come to light over the past several years, and have picked up steam in the last several months, colleges across the country have had to weigh the symbolism of an honorary degree with the impact of a Cosby connection.
Bill Cosby has been slapped with another lawsuit by a woman who claims he doped her, groped her and then trashed her image.
Cosby, 78, could not immediately be reached for comment.
The sexual abuse ended when Hill was a sophomore in college. His wife, Camille Cosby, said that any sexual relationships that he had outside of their marriage were consensual, which stirred up controversy. She says she was offended, her reputation was harmed and she suffered emotional pain.
The AP doesn’t normally identify people who say they are victims of sexual abuse unless they come forward publicly.
“The Board’s decision was made after lengthy and serious consideration”. “I am hopeful with the help of my legal team justice will be served”.
Hill’s attorney, George Kontos, will hold a press conference in Pittsburgh later Thursday to discuss the suit.
Bill Cosby is slapped with another lawsuit on October 14, Wednesday, when a Baldwin woman, named Renita Hill, accused him of sexual abuse and drugging when she was just 16.
Hill ultimately told Cosby she did not want to drink with him anymore, to which he allegedly replied, “If you don’t drink the drink, you can’t come”.
