Corey Webster struggles for minutes against Bulls in preseason
Davis: Just being back in Kentucky, playing on the floor again in Rupp Arena, having fun, seeing all the coaches there.
The Pelicans have 13 players locked into spots ahead of the October. 26 cutoff for final rosters.
It wasn’t that long ago that Chicago Bulls fans were in the same exact position as New Orleans Pelicans fans are right now.
New Orleans was a different story.
Davis’ rocket-fueled ascent is the key here.
Let’s start with the obvious – Anthony Davis is awesome. Weber said, his eyes going wide. I know I put in the work.
The National Basketball Association season is now barely more than two weeks away, and as the offseason comes closer to an end, so are our preseason team previews and rankings. New Orleans made 11 of 25 3-pointers.
However, due to missing 81 games over the past two seasons, people are forgetting that he is just 27 years old and still in his physical prime.
New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis (23) blocks Chicago Bulls forward Nikola Mirotic (44) during the first quarter of their game at the United Center. There’s no questioning his potency from deep; Anderson has attempted 2,243 triples in his seven-year career, hitting a hearty 37.9 percent of them.
With now in a terrific shape, expect Anderson to contribute the best way he can: Attacking the basket with drive and cuts from the wings.
In their recent win over the Timberwolves, reserve guard E’Twaun Moore led the scoring with 18 points, two rebounds, five assists, and two steals. They’re going to need that from him early on with Asik and Ajinca out to start the season.
Of course, as we know now that hasn’t happened as Rose tore his ACL in the first round of the playoffs the following year and everything about the Bulls changed.
Shooting guard needs to shoot much better than last season’s 41.1 percent from the field. The free-throw attempts and finishes inside were mostly gone. Also, starting shooting guard Eric Gordon sat out the game as a precaution after experiencing back spasms.
“I’d never played there except for the McDonald’s (All-American) game, but that doesn’t count”, Davis said. “That’s where you get yourself in trouble”.
Either way, the Pelicans will take it.
Add it all up, and you’ve got a 53-29 season and a fourth or fifth playoff seed.
Hopefully it never gets to that point with Davis, who has never played 70 games in a season yet, but by looking too far ahead the risk to miss what is actually happening is there.
“I’m just trying to be Bobby Portis and bring positive energy”, said Portis, who often refers to himself in the third person.
