This is where her most important victory came, with a key assist from Sanders.

In a panel discussion with hosts Steve Malzberg and Rick Unger after the Democrats’ first presidential primary debate, Klein, the author of”Unlikeable: The Problem With Hillary”, said Sanders, however, “did help himself a lot” in the face-off. And throughout most of the two-hour debate Clinton played the role of aggressor, an unexpected shift for a candidate who had barely mentioned her Democratic rivals since launching her campaign six months ago. This makes eminent political sense: Clinton is the probable nominee, which makes it unwise to anger her, and no one else has a sufficiently large following to risk the ire of the base by attacking someone whose approval rating remains high among Democrats. While free for students, both plans will shift the cost of college tuition onto taxpayers-Sanders’s $70 billion-a-year proposal mostly by taxing trading in the financial markets and Clinton’s, expected to cost about half as much, by “closing tax loopholes…for the most fortunate”, according to campaign documents.

Then she added, “And I don’t think we should confuse what we have to do every so often in America, which is save capitalism from itself….”

In another sign of its maturing operation, the campaign has hired Democratic pollster Ben Tulchin, whose past clients have included former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, who ran for president in 2004, former California Gov. Gray Davis and Sen. Has the Democratic Party finally broken away from the shackles of corporate wingnuttery? “It was such a great night”, she said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”. Sanders continued to highlight his opposition to Wall Street banks and big banks, and continued to propose to make college tuition free and increase taxes on the wealthy. “I could never vote for him, but he says a few of the same things that Trump says, that the general public, we’re kind of fed up with the politicians in Washington, D.C”.
