‘Ebony’ magazine addresses Bill Cosby scandal in striking cover

Ebony Magazine addressed the issue with their November cover, showing the broken, shattered image of Heathcliff, Claire, Theo, Denise, Vanessa and Rudy, better known as The Huxtables – Twitter reacts.

Now, a few three decades later, as Cosby stands accused of sexually assaulting at least 40 women, Black America is left to grapple with his once-unimpeachable legacy.

Cosby has maintained through his lawyer that the extramarital affairs over the years or the women’s use of Quaaludes – what he called “disco biscuits” in another deposition – was consensual.

In a preview of the new issue, Ebony’s Goldie Taylor asks “Cliff-Hanger: Can “The Cosby Show” Survive?”

EBONY’s November 2015 cover, however, a shattered portrait of “The Cosby Show’s” Huxtable family, sings to a different tune.

“I believe with everything that our collective healing (from this and all traumas) is tied to baring truths, confronting selves, and dismantling crutches”, she wrote. “However, sometimes before you rise up, you break down”.

But neither Cosby nor his effect on black America, good or bad, can be ignored, she said. “We’re just asking African Americans to have an honest, forthright conversation about what (the Cosby scandal) means”.

On the other side are those who feel that “The Cosby Show” and what it accomplished should have nothing to do with what Cosby did in his personal life.
