Scaffolding collapses outside building under construction in Houston
Houston Fire Department units arrived on the scene within three minutes of the report.
A huge scaffolding collapsed in a seven-story building under construction in downtown Houston Friday morning. He described all the construction workers’ injuries as not life-threatening.
The Houston Fire Department said in a news release early Friday afternoon six workers were hurt and taken to local hospitals for treatment.
The accident happened at a residential complex across the street from Minute Maid Park, home of baseball’s Houston Astros.
HFD Capt. Ruy Lozano said they believe all of the workers are accounted for, but they are working with construction site managers to make sure.
A Witness said a domino-like collapse sent a cascade of metal onto the pavement below. Video, however, did show at least person being carried on a stretcher to get medical help.
“There’s always the potential for a secondary collapse”, the senior captain said.
“It sounded like a bunch of boulders”, another witness said.
The developer of the apartment building, the Finger Companies of Houston, was not available to comment. HFD currently has more than 30 units on scene, including several heavy rescue units. “In the mean time, we are grateful to the first responders on the scene and praying that everyone is OK”.
