Ryan Coogler Rumored to Direct Black Panther
Ryan Coogler is the latest named that is rumoured to be being linked up to take up the director’s chair on Black Panther.
Earlier this month, Marvel issued new release dates for three mystery movies, while pushing their highly-anticipated Black Panther up five months, from July 6, 2018 to February 16, 2018.
DuVernay originally passed on the project, deeming her reason as it wouldn’t ‘be an Ava DuVernay film’, while Gray opted to direct Furious 8 instead.
The movie went on to be a critical success and won the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award for USA dramatic film at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013.
Coogler is now doing the rounds on Creed, a Rocky quasi-sequel where the son of Apollo Creed teams up with Rocky Balboa himself (Sylvester Stallone) to become a boxing champion.
While it’s unclear whether an offer has been made, the site reports that Coogler is the studio’s top contender for the directing gig. Chadwick Boseman stars in Black Panther as the titular character after making his debut in next March’s Captain America: Civil War. Andy Serkis is also set to be on the cast list. But what do you guys think of the potential choice – is Coogler the person to bring Black Panther to life?
