Raymond Sutherland, 56, is charged with battery on a person over 65 years old, aggravated battery on a person over 65 years old, aggravated abuse of an elderly person and neglect of an elderly person with great harm.
According to the New York Daily News, Raymond Sutherland and Debbie Sutherland were arrested Monday and charged with battery on a person over 65 years of age after police say they found the elderly woman lying on the floor of their shared home.
The audience for the discussion will be made up of educators, medical professionals, law enforcement officials and others who have been affected by the prescription drug abuse and heroin epidemic, according to the White House, and more details about the visit will be released in the coming days. Her son eventually called for medical assistance, authorities said.
After interviewing the Sutherlands, authorities said they determined that they both physically abused Raymond’s mother and detectives obtained felony warrants for their arrest. Though the victim initially denied being abused, doctors later determined that her wounds were not consistent with an accidental fall. Debbie faces one count of battery on a person 65 or older, according to the Sentinel.
Raymond’s mother is being treated for her injuries at a local rehabilitation center and remains in critical condition, WESH reports.
Both Raymond and Debbie Sutherland were booked into the Osceola County Jail. She is now in critical condition.
The Osceola County Public Defender’s Office, who is representing the couple, told HLN that they can not comment on behalf of their clients.
