Leonardo DiCaprio To Bring Volkswagen Emissions Scandal To Hollywood
DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way and Paramount Pictures have acquired a four-page draft for the book that will chronicle the scandal that led to the resignation of Volkswagen Group CEO Martin Winterkorn and shook up the global automobile market this September.
The firm is facing a potential fine of up to $18 billion by the US Environmental Protection Agency. Since then, the company became the target of regulatory investigations in multiple countries, and Volkswagen’s stock price went down in value by third days after the news broke out in public.
The book will investigate the philosophy of “more, faster and better” behind the scandal. The movie will be based on the yet to be written and unnamed novel by New York Times Journalist Jack Ewing. His book is still in writing process, and so do the screenplay for the upcoming Volkswagen emissions scandal movie.
The auto giant stands accused of installing software on millions of diesel cars to cheat emissions tests and evade limits on nitrogen oxide and other pollutants.
The unnamed title has allegedly already been sold to publishing house WW Norton & Company for a six-figure sum.
While it is yet unconfirmed whether Leonardo DiCaprio will star in the movie or when it will be released, it is revealed that DiCaprio, an active environmentalist will be the producer of the project.
Turns out, the cars were producing 40% more pollution than was allowed by law.
