Wake-UNC, BC-Clemson headline ACC’s Week 7
Boston College is completing 46 percent of its passes; Clemson’s opponents so far have completed 46 percent of their passes. Yes, BC’s defense has been incredible, but so has Clemson’s offense. That said, the Eagles defense-which has allowed less yards than every other FBS defense and less points than all but one (Michigan) this year-could put the onus on Wilkins and his unit to ensure that they keep points off the board. The over/under total for the game has been set at 36.5 points. These two quarterbacks have been playing roughly equal playing times the last few games, but the Boston College head coach Steve Addazio stated Monday that they “are going to settle on one” this weekend.
But Boston College, which visits Death Valley Saturday night at 7 o’clock, may pose the most serious threat to that trend to date.
“We just go out there knowing that we have to hold ourselves to a higher standard each week, ” Simmons said.
“The 6’4”, 315-pound first-year player has demonstrated athleticism through disruption on the field, having already recorded three tackles for loss, including one sack, this season. Let’s take a look at who has the advantage on Saturday on all sides of the ball. “We are going to face a real strong offense right now”.
Contrary to the Boston College defense, Clemson should have no problem facing off against this lackluster BC offense led by the hometown kid Troy Flutie.
“They’re putting up unbelievable numbers”, he said.
It also marked the lowest scoring college football contest since the Oregon State Beavers posted a 3-0 win over the Pittsburgh Panthers in the 2008 Sun Bowl.
“You’re obviously recruiting for speed”, he said. But I don’t think I could carry it for more than 20 yards without passing out.
The improvement isn’t only at the top of the league. If only Boston’s beloved Red Sox had been so potent on offense (scored just 4.62 runs per game) and stingy on defense (allowed 4.64 runs per game) they might have made the playoffs and improved upon their 78-84 record and fifth-place AL East finish.
The normally affable Swinney took off on a reporter after Clemson’s 43-24 victory over Georgia Tech last week who asked if the term “Clemsoning” – which the Urban Dictionary online defines as “the act of delivering an inexplicably disappointing performance, usually within the context of a college football season” – was no longer valid because of the Tigers ability to beat teams they should. “There are outside forces, but when you go into the sanctum of the meeting rooms and show the video; when you can show where the problems are and it’s not about a guy getting physically handled but how to execute better – they understand that”, he said.
“That’s all you need for a season – to know the base and have your base”. They were shutout against Florida State and Wake Forest and managed seven against Duke.
Swinney’s fiery statements answered back loud and clear, Brooks said.
