N.Korea leader says forces can ‘fight any war’ with US
The celebrations didn’t quite reach that camp happy atmosphere that parades usually have, because North Korea shunned colourful floats in favour of armoured tanks, rocket launchers, drones and a variety of missiles mounted on trucks.

As the parade ended, Kim waved to the crowd and raised clasped hands with Liu.
For the first time, one of the floats was adorned with a picture of him, surrounded by troops waving weapons – significant because this is a country which officially adores the two previous leaders, father Kim Jong Illinois and grandfather Kim Illinois Sung, whose portraits and statues are everywhere.
On Monday South Korea’s Unification Ministry Spokesman Jeong Joon-hee said Pyongyang showed a few restraint during the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of North Korea’s ruling party.

“Because the party is so central to the system hierarchy, the 70th anniversary is very important and I think North Korea has an internal and external need to use this occasion to show off and to show the world and US its weapons with mid or long-range capabilities”. With the USA stepping up its strategy of rebalancing Asia, a significant number of figures in China are arguing that China’s relationship with North Korea must not be allowed to deteriorate.
The parade also displayed the new KN-08 intercontinental ballistic missle, with an estimated range of 10,000 kilometers.
Kim spoke frequently with Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, during the parade as hundreds of troops and weaponry passed through the main square in Pyongyang, the UPI reported. Keeping potentially powerful institutions carefully balanced against each other is a key to the stability of Kim’s dictatorial leadership.
Xi gave Kim “a lot of face” by being so enthusiastic and cooperative, Duowei said, noting that in addition to sending Liu and penning a letter, he also sent Vice President Li Yuanchao to the North Korean embassy in Beijing to participate in celebratory activities over the weekend.
The projects include new hydropower plants and high-rise apartments, but it is unclear how much of North Korea’s limited financial resources have been put into improving the lot of the majority of its citizens who are not fortunate enough to live in the relatively developed and affluent capital.
