Petition to change Australian currency to ‘Dollarydoos’ gains momentum
“This will make millions of people around the world want to get their hands on a few Australian currency due to the real life Simpsons reference, driving up the value of the Australian currency”, wrote Thomas Probst on his change.org petition.
One “Simpsons” fan wants Australia’s paper currency to get a new name.
His efforts aren’t exactly proving pointless either – with the petition, addressed to the Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, having amassed nearly 15,000 signatures as of Friday afternoon.
Tapping into the sort of economic ingenuity usually found only in high-level financial think tanks or on every single page of this web site, a fearless Australian citizen has proposed that his country’s currency be changed to a Simpsons reference in order to revive its flagging strength. “There’s nothing wrong with the bidet, is there?”
The petition says renaming their currency will help bolster the struggling Australian economy against falling commodity prices. As it stands, the petition has yet to receive any support from Australian political parties, however Nine Australia have contacted the Australian Treasurer, Scott Morrison, for comment on the matter.
The unsuspecting Australian youth who accepts the long-distance call gets in trouble with his dad for the massive phone bill.
If lawmakers make the change official (about as likely as Homer Simpson turning down a doughnut), Probst argues that worldwide interest in the novelty of the money would drive up its value.
Another singer added: “Dollarydoos is the most ideal possible name for Australia’s currency” – and another admitted: ‘I already refer to our currency as Dollarydoos’.
