Carlos Hyde — not Boone — fined for hit on concussed Giants linebacker
Beason ripped Boone on Friday after returning to practice for the first time since being knocked out of the nationally televised game on the opening series.
Replays indicated Boone indeed had his hands on Beason but it’s debatable how powerful the so-called push was. Beason said the real culprit was San Francisco guard Alex Boone, who shoved Beason forward. One thing he won’t be doing: Reaching out to Boone.
“I can honestly say that if I hadn’t gotten pushed in the back I wouldn’t have been concussed”, Beason said on Friday, having cleared the concussion protocol which kept him on the sideline for several days. Beason said he did not attempt to reach out to Boone personally, instead going through the media.
“I didn’t know what happened until I watched the play. That’s a shame. If I had a grievance with somebody I’m sure I’d call them and tell them, but everybody’s different”.
Hyde was not penalized on the first-quarter play, but the National Football League determined his action constituted “unnecessary roughness”.
Beason claimed Boone pushed him in the back while he was closing in on Hyde, whose helmet-to-helmet hit knockedBeason out of the game only five snaps into the Giants’ eventual 30-27 win. I wanted to get that out there, I hope it goes back to him and that’s how I feel.
49ers coach Jim Tomsula said Friday that Beason’s comments were news to him. “We were blocking and tackling and then running”. After saying he felt great, he turned his attention to Boone, saying that he avoided the offensive lineman on the stretch play and had cleared him. The play in which the incident occured was a run to Beason’s left. The type of hold Boone committed is one players can easily get away with, Beason said, based on how the game officials are positioned on the field. I’ve been tackling people for a long time, and I’ve never had a recorded concussion…. Not necessarily for harm, but you have to have a few regard for other players in terms of the rules.
Beason’s ire this week has been focused on Boone, whom he accused of a “cowardly move”.
Beason said the block in the back was “like pushing someone down the stairs”.
