Ebony Puts Cosby Controversy Front and Center
In an interview with the Associated Press last week, Warner said the legacy of “The Cosby Show” had been “tarnished” as a result of the numerous rape allegations against Cosby.
Cosby Show star Malcolm-Jamal Warner reunited with The View co-host and former co-star Raven-Symone on Friday, October 16, to discuss Ebony ” s controversial November cover referencing the classic “80s family series.
In a preview of the new issue, Ebony’s Goldie Taylor asks “Cliff-Hanger: Can “The Cosby Show” Survive?” “Ignorant cover. Shame on you!!!!!!”
In contrast, another reader tweeted praise that the cover “went where it needed to go”. “Let’s just remember that this was a sitcom, and we had writers and things of that nature”. That’s a show that we’re all very proud to have been on.
In a statement to E!
Ebony’s November issue is all about the black family.
More than 50 women – including models Beverly Johnson and Janice Dickinson – have come forward accusing the comedian of drugging them and, in most cases, sexually assaulting them. He has yet to face charges for the claims.
But these critics are either missing the real point of the cover or are not acknowledging (or understanding) the reason why they’re having such a violent response to Ebony’s latest statement piece. Furthermore, I’m not offended by the cover because I can separate my love and critical analysis of the show from my disgust for the man behind it.
