Mets fan critically injured after fight at Dodger Stadium
The fight occurred in a stadium parking lot following Game 1 of the NLDS between the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers.
A fight outside Dodger Stadium after a playoff game left a fan critically injured and police searching for suspects in the latest round of violence at the ballpark. Police said surveillance videos might provide a better description of the attackers, but Chief Charlie Beck confirmed Tuesday that police are looking for a mother and son in connection with the attack.
Violent fan behavior has been a problem at Dodger Stadium for years.
Investigators say the fight apparently began as an argument between fans that escalated to the physical confrontation.
Police said Monday that the victim remained in the hospital but had been stabilized. The Mets fan was punched and fell and hit his head on the concrete, causing the severity of the injury.
Channel 7 Eyewitness News in Los Angeles interviewed a witness at the scene who said the attacker was tall, with long, blond hair. “Since Bryan Stow, we have enhanced stadium security significantly”, Beck said. “Particularly for championship games or key rivalries, we deploy a significant amount of officers”. A jury faulted the team, along with Sanchez and Norwood, and awarded Stow almost $18 million after a six-week trial in 2014.
The Dodgers lost the game 3-1, and are down in the series 1-2. “But it’s a big facility, and you can’t be everywhere all the time”. Louie Sanchez and Marvin Norwood pleaded guilty in the case.
