The 1997 film is getting a reboot with ABC and is turning into a half-hour television show.

“You can never be Jell-O” in the beloved ’90s rom-com My Best Friend’s Wedding. All hell breaks loose when her BFF announces he is engaged to someone else (Cameron Diaz). The network announced yesterday that Ron Bass, the movie’s original writer, will pen the show’s script with Jessica Amento. Realizing that she wants Michael for herself, Julianne sets out to make sure the wedding doesn’t take place. Bass and the film’s Jerry Zucker and Janet Zucker will executive produce alongside Mike Menchel.
The series, which is being developed by ABC, will pick up with Julianne Potter (played by Julia Roberts in the film) navigating life in New York City with best friend George (played by Rupert Everett in the movie). No word yet on who will play Roberts or Everett’s original roles.
