Alexander Steen has a goal and an assist as Blues down Canucks
Friday night, it caught up to them. The Canucks are 3-1-1.
The Southeast Missouri State University football team will host 14th ranked Eastern Kentucky on Saturday for Homecoming, but the team had a surprise on Friday at practice.
By Saturday night, either LSU or Florida will have one loss. “We’re not making the plays we know we can”. Wel’ll also know whose fans are more disappointed: Georgia’s or Missouri’s. “Too much perimeter stuff and the power play kind of went like the rest of our game”. Miller made the save but Bortuzzo took the rebound and shot it over a sprawling Miller.
Vancouver cut the deficit to 3-1 while killing a penalty at 12:38 when Sutter moved in on a 2-on-1 rush and beat Allen with a low shot for his second.
Rookie forward Jared McCann got that goal back 30 seconds later as he scored his second goal of the season by finishing off a give-and-go with Burrows.
The Canucks had a four-minute power play late in the second and early in the third but again could not score.
“There’s different guys on every team that, when they’re on the ice, you like to be able to shut them down”, said Canucks defenceman Matt Bartkowski, to Canucks TV (video below). “I didn’t think we were at the best of our game, maybe until late…we were a half-step slow and we needed that half-step against a good team”.
Notes: Stastny left in the second period and did not return…. Teammate Jaden Schwartz made slick pass through the slot to Lehtera, who then yanked the puck around Vancouver center Bo Horvat and pumped it past former Blues goalie Ryan Miller for a 1-0 lead 7 minutes, 36 seconds into the night. The Canucks dressed McCann and Jake Virtanen, both 19, marking the first time the team had played two teenagers since Rob Murphy (19) and Trevor Linden (18) suited up on November 13, 1988.
“I thought Jake was real good”, Desjardins said of Virtanen, who had one shot and three hits in 8:32 of ice time. “The fact is, they’re four lines deep and they play you hard and you’ve gotta be prepared for that”. Stastny passed back to Tarasenko, who then slipped it over to Steen, who beat Canucks goaltender Ryan Miller.Bortuzzo made it 3-0 at 10:01 after Tarasenko fired a shot from the faceoff circle.
The fifth game of the season was the first in which the Blues pocketed the game’s first goal. That game is a 6 p.m. start…Sutter’s goal was the 100th of his career (his 11th short-handed marker) and came in his 500th National Hockey League game…The Canucks fell to 3-1-1, while St. Louis improved to 4-1-0. St. Louis wraps up its road trip at Winnipeg and Montreal on Sunday and Tuesday, respectively.3.
But with a three-goal lead and a man-advantage, the game did an about-face on the Blues.
