Flyers defeat Blackhawks as Neuvirth posts another shutout
It probably went something like, ‘Hey, thanks for saving our bacon all night. Neuvirth’s 30-save performance against the Blackhawks ran his shutout minutes streak to 132:05.
After recording back-to-back shutouts, Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Michal Neuvirth’s spot as backup on the depth chart might seem curious.
“They’re a great team and it’s going to be a good test for our team”.
NOTES Prior to the game, the Flyers will honor recently retired defenseman Kimmo Timonen, who won the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks last season after being traded from Philadelphia…. Neuvirth stunned last year’s Stanley Cup Champions with several acrobatic saves. “This was a huge win for him and us”.
Patrick Kane became the butt of Philadelphia Flyers’ fans taunting, as they chanted “she said no” during their victory over the Chicago Blackhawks. Along the way, the Flyers built a two-goal lead, with help from a string of early Chicago penalties which helped wear down goalie Corey Crawford.
Meanwhile, the Arizona Coyotes scored three goals in the first period to set-up a 4-0 win over the Anaheim Ducks. “It’s a big thing”.
“I think the practice time will be good for us”. John LeClair scored the Flyers’ goal.
As the game neared the midway point point of regulation, Laughton sped past Brent Seabrook, cutting in for a scoing chance. In on a breakaway, Laughton smartly drew the puck away from the defender, forcing him to take a hooking penalty. I like to talk to players, I like to give my opinion of what I see on the ice, what they can do better. Future Hall of Famer Marian Hossa found the puck and darted in alone. “You saw in Tampa, I thought for the first game, it was a really fast game. It’s nice to be able to go into that with a few small success and feel good about the way that we are working and the things we are doing”.
Later in the period, the Flyers’ efforts paid off again. Left winger Michael Raffl wrapped around the net and right there in front was Giroux to put it past Crawford.
Four games into the season, this looks like a very different Flyers club, after all.
Philadelphia Flyer’s veteran defensemen Mark Streit and Nick Schultz combined for six blocked shots and did a wonderful job protecting Neuvirth throughout the game. This year, he did it in the second home game. The penalty killing was exceptional, going 6-for-6 including a 23-second five-on-three kill. He was previously in trouble for allegedly punching a cab driver, and he was charged with disorderly conduct while avoiding second-degree robbery and fourth-degree criminal mischief. Last season, they began with three consecutive home losses, coming off a season-opening loss in Boston.
