Radical economic plan not policy: Qld govt
FAST food outlets could soon be seen in schools across the state under the Palaszczuk Labor Government’s secret economic plan for Queensland, shadow education minister Tim Mander said.
A leaked government document has revealed the Queensland economy is not performing as well as it should be and the Palaszczuk Government needs to stop blaming the LNP, a business lobby group says.
Lawrence Springborg said the Opposition was leaked the documents by “frustrated public servants”.
“As we canvassed yesterday – (this is) not government policy, clearly written on the top of the document, third line down from memory, not government policy”, Ms Palaszczuk told parliament after being asked about the leak.
She said all Queensland students up to year 10 would have the option of learning to code after the state fast-tracks the implementation of the digital module of the Australian national curriculum to 2016.
“Tony Abbott was the one who was pitching this around”.
Jones also adamantly denied the claims, insisting public education would remain free.
“As the Minister for Education I will always fight to ensure that every child, no matter where they live, what their parent’s income is or what their personal circumstances are, has access to the best education possible”.
“It was not cleared by anyone in the Department of Premier and Cabinet and does not reflect the department’s approved policy advice”, she said, following sustained Opposition attack regarding one of the potential initiatives which would see public education means tested, which Labor conclusively ruled out.
