Bear Searches Through Bozeman High School Lockers, Police Respond
In what is probably the most Montana thing in the history of Montana, a black bear broke into and roamed the hallways of Bozeman High School on Wednesday morning.
The bear entered the school through an open garage door from the football field to the east side of the high school.
Staff opened doors around the school, encouraging the beast to get out.
Students seemed excited about the news, tweeting memes about the new addition to their school. “It just kind of landed in our lap”, said Principal Kevin Conwell told the Bozeman Daily Chronicle.
Officials from the school said there was no current threat to students.
Though he commended his students for remaining at a safe distance even as they were documenting the event with their phones, Conwell was relieved to see the animal go. “There’s a wild animal in the building”. Conwell noted, “It left us a nice deposit”. In many cases, nuisance bears are killed or trapped and moved away from an area in the hopes that they won’t return.
Jones explained that at this time of the year bears are in the hyperphagia phase of their life seasonal cycle, seeking to load on calories to gain fat quickly. A pile of bear crap?
And should you actually encounter a bear, says the department, your best bet is to stay calm, pick up any small children who may be near you, speak softly, and appear as non-threatening as possible.
