Sebastian Vollmer intentionally coy when asked about potential slide to left
On Sunday afternoon in Dallas, Patriots left tackle Nate Solder left the game with an apparent arm injury.
McBride added that the Patriots have claimed defensive back Rashaan Melvin, who was released by the Baltimore Ravens, off waivers to take Solder’s roster spot.
Patriots coach Bill Belichick has always raved about Cannon’s work ethic, and those words were reiterated on Belichick’s conference call with reporters Wednesday.
The New England Patriots will not have a vital part of their offensive line when they take on the Indianapolis Colts in Week 6.
Solder left the field on his own after Cowboys defensive tackle Tyrone Crawford registered an eight-yard sack of quarterback Tom Brady. One of Hardy’s sacks came when he beat Solder, the other when he blew by Cannon.
The Patriots, who defeated the Seattle Seahawks at Super Bowl 49 earlier this year, are on top of the AFC East standings with their 4-0 record. “They’ve got Tom Brady and they’ve got [Solder] trying to protect his blind side”. The Patriots also could consider flipping veteran Vollmer to the left side and inserting Cannon at right tackle. Cannon has also had experience playing right tackle when starter Sebastian Vollmer was injured.
The Patriots have been shuffling offensive linemen all season, and now, they could be scrambling.
“I played it in college [too]”, Vollmer said, referring to his time at the University of Houston when he started 25 games at tackle. I think it’s exciting to go out there and do something that I love to do, to go out there and do it with teammates who I love to play with.
Solder has previously only missed one game since being selected by the Patriots in the first round in 2011.
If that’s in play – and there’s no evidence at the moment to suggest it is – Vollmer was being extremely cautious today when asked three times about the possibility.
