Sabres GM hasn’t moved on from Johnny Oduya as defenseman waits for
Oduya has made it clear that his preference is to return to Chicago, but that my not be in the cards and could eventually mean the left-shooting blueliner ending up in a Sabres uniform next season.
The Stars, Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Columbus Blue Jackets and Detroit Red Wings are among the teams to have expressed interest in Oduya.
Oduya, an unrestricted free agent, is expected to make a decision on whether to stay with the Chicago Blackhawks this week, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. That and it’ll be like one big Thrashers reunion in the dressing room with Zach Bogosian and Evander Kane.
Only, don’t think that Sabres GM Tim Murray’s proactive offseason approach is set to end anytime soon. “He hasn’t signed anywhere yet, so I haven’t moved on”. “We’ve looked at everybody that we feel are going to need waivers; we’re still talking trades with teams; we’re still talking about a couple guys that are still out there”. That’s what we want to get to and it’s no secret to anybody what their situation was going to be with their cap situation and there’s probably seven or eight other teams in the league like that.
The 33-year old isn’t the only option for the Sabres right now, Murray stated.
Though they received Daley, the Blackhawks haven’t closed the door on re-signing Oduya.
Oduya, 33, had two goals and 10 points in the regular season and averaged 20:17 time on ice for the Blackhawks while rating a plus-5.
Oduya is believed to be looking for a deal worth around the last season’s cap hit of $3.375 million.
