Arsene Wenger hints at quitting Arsenal
Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern were surprised to hear comments from manager Arsene Wenger yesterday, where he hinted an imminent exit is on the cards. I know how sad people are when we lose a game.
Wenger “outlined how the club was now into phase three of his tenure as manager after the “easy” glory years from 1996 until 2005 and what he regards as the more substantial achievement to 2013 of maintaining the club in Europe’s elite while funding a new stadium”, says the Daily Telegraph.
“We are not scared to spend the money – I know I have that reputation”.
Wenger said: “I am resolute to commit absolutely until the last day of my contract to bring back big success to this club, and leave as well one day in a position where it can do even better when I leave”. We know how to develop strikers quite well.
Wenger believes Walcott’s form this season, which has seen the England worldwide net two Premier League goals, has justified his decision to not spend big.
The Frenchman divided his stint at the helm of Arsenal into three phases, branding the initial 1996-2005 era as his easiest time with the EPL giants.
“Honestly! I’m 30 years in this job”. It was a period where it all went really easy, smooth and well.
Walcott is going from strength to strength as a central striker this season, it seems like everyone affiliated with Arsenal is willing him to shine this term.
“I accept you have to be over-critical when the performances are not good, but look at number of games Arsenal played in Champions League before I arrived and look after, and come back to me”.
Goals against Leicester and Olympiacos were followed up with a stand-out performance in Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Manchester United before the global break – when Walcott added to his England tally with the opener against Estonia.
“I think we are back in contention and we have a good chance”.
“We have taken more points since 1 January than anyone, the trend is right and we are showing consistency”.
“What we do is consistent”. That means we have recreated consistency.
“If he adds that to his game then he will be hard to stop”.
“Overall he has made the most important step to get through his injury and against Manchester United he was fully back”.
