Armed robberies of Temple students appear related
– Police in North Philadelphia are investigating an armed robbery that occurred late last night at Broad and Jefferson streets.
The suspect took an iPhone 6, a wallet containing two debit cards, and $2 in cash before fleeing west on Jefferson.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Police described him as thin, about 5 feet 5 to 5 feet 7, and dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt and a dark-colored ski mask.
“Initially we were unsure”, Charlie Leone, head of Campus Safety Services at Temple told the Daily News yesterday, because only the first incident involved a carjacking.
The incident comes on the eve of Temple’s parent’s weekend, and is the third armed robbery in the area this week.
Police say a 20-year-old female Temple student was robbed and sexually assaulted early Tuesday on North Carlisle Street as she walked home from the campus library.
The student got out of his 2005 Cadillac and the suspects drove off in the vehicle, 6abc reports.
Three hours later, near 15th and Montgomery streets, a 24-year-old student was held at gunpoint for his cellphone, wallet and keys. The victim says he was approached by an unidentified male from the rear.
