Man Charged With Attempted Murder Of Cop
A significant cordon has been put up around Scriven Court, ScrivenStreet, Clarissa Street and Loanda Close, while several officers and police vehicles remain at the scene.
The officer, who is stable in hospital, was shot in broad daylight in the middle of the street in Hackney.
“A man, no further details at this time, has been arrested at the scene”.
The officer was shot at while the Met’s specialist firearms unit SCO19 executed an operation at 12.45pm in Scriven Street, Hackney.
He remains in a stable condition at an east London hospital.
There were no reports of anyone else injured.
Police have released a short statement confirming a shooting had occurred during a planned operation. There were a lot of sirens and police cars and a lot of policemen running around all over the place.
He said local people began shouting at police to tell them which way the suspect went.
Nilesh Kalawadia, who owns Friends newsagents nearby, heard a bang but didn’t realise it was a gunshot.
Commander Duncan Ball said he was unable to state for operational reasons whether any shots were fired by police during the incident in a residential neighbourhood of Hackney. They heard two shots. “I think the boy got away as well”.
“The officer’s family have been informed and we will offer the full support of the Metropolitan Police to the officer, his family and his colleagues”.
‘There were lots of police standing outside – 50 or 60.
“I was in my living room watching TV when I saw a load of armed officers outside my house”, he said. As soon as I heard the noise I saw a guy fall down, forward, flat on his face.
He added: “We grew up in LA so we are more used to gunshots over there, not here”.
