Trump Not Talking About His Comments on 9-11
During a Bloomberg interview that aired Friday morning, Trump hit former President George W. Bush, Jeb Bush’s brother, for not keeping the U.S. safe during the September 11, 2001, terror attacks.
“When you talk about George Bush, I mean, say what you want, the World Trade Center came down during his time”, Trump said on Bloomberg TV. Last month, Bush said of Trump, “I think I’m the number one beneficiary of the Donald’s insults”.
Bush, a former Florida governor, took in more than $922,000 from people who said they work as bankers and investors, amounting to seven percent of his total haul and about the same amount received from the industry in the previous quarter, reported Politico.
Ruhle jumped in, saying, ‘Hold on!
Bush called Trump’s comments “pathetic” in a tweet to which Trump shot back by calling him “pathetic” instead.
“He was president, okay?”
Trump was trying to distinguish himself as superior to George W. Bush, and did so by saying that the Twin Towers came down during Bush’s “reign”.
His main rival for the Republican nomination, Jeb Bush, was quick to jump to the defence of his brother.
“How pathetic for @realdonaldtrump to criticize the president for 9/11”.
During her interview with Trump Friday, Ruhle noted that a few presidents have had a “soft hand” when dealing with hard situations.
But Trump, who is leading the pack of Republicans running for President, would not budge.
Zach Cataldo, of Lexington, Massachusetts, waits in line to attend a rally for US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in Tynsboro, Massachusetts, October 16, 2015.
The audience loved Bush’s defense of his brother, suggesting that they weren’t ready to condemn the former president.
Trump’s 9/11 comments sparked further backlash from within the GOP. ‘But George Bush had to stand in front of America after 9/11, Barack Obama did after Sandy Hook’.
“What we need is a leader”, he added.
“The country wants really dramatic change, and when you show up and say, ‘I’m acceptable to the establishment, ‘ they check you off and go, ‘OK, not you, ‘” he said.
“You know what? As it relates to my brother, there is one thing I know for sure – he kept us safe”, Bush said.
