Cameron Crowe’s Roadies has been picked up to series by Showtime
My So-Called Life/Once And Again writing and producing veteran Winnie Holzman is aboard to run the show, with J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk offering executive producer support through their Bad Robot company.
Roadies will premiere on Showtime in 2016.
SHOWTIME has picked up the highly anticipated pilot ROADIES to series with 10 episodes.
“I’ve long wanted to work with J.J. and Winnie, and coming together to tell these stories has been beyond a blast”, the director said in a statement. ‘Showtime has a great track record with music-based projects, and they’ve been wonderful partners.
Penned and directed by Crowe, Roadies is described as an insider’s look at the reckless, romantic, amusing and often poignant lives of a committed group of “roadies” who live for music and the de facto family they’ve formed along the way.
Seemingly a continuation of Crowe’s 2000 nearly Famous, the series will follow the day-to-day lives of a successful, arena-touring rock band, with a focus on the road-crew that helps the band behind the scenes.
Pearl Jam manager Kelly Curtis is on board to serve as music supervisor to keep things authentic. The ensemble cast slated for Roadies includes Imogen Poots, Rafe Spall, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Peter Cambor, Colson Baker and Ron White. The project, which is about the lives of roadies, is Crowe’s first ever television series. Season one will feature guest stars Luis Guzman, Jacqueline Byers, Finesse Mitchell, Branscombe Richmond, and Tanc Sade. Carla Gugino, meanwhile, replaced Christina Hendricks as Shelli, the band’s production manager, a smart and capable woman who is also a very private person who is dedicated to her job.
