Louis Blues Try to Continue Undefeated Streak in Canada vs. Vancouver Canucks
Stastny left Friday’s 4-3 win over Vancouver in the second period after blocking a shot and left the ice favoring his right leg. The Blues announced Saturday that he has flown back St. Louis and a further update on his status won’t come until the team returns home from its current six-game road trip.
Jori Lehtera, Alex Steen and Paul Stastny each recorded a goal and an assist as the Blues defeated the Oilers for the second time already this season. Rookie Jared McCann responded 30 seconds later with his second of the season and Daniel Sedin made it 4-3 with 29 seconds left in the third.
His condition was not immediately known. Brandon Sutter and Alex Burrows broke in on a two-on-one while shorthanded, and Sutter fired one five-hole on Jake Allen for his 100th career goal. Coming into Friday, the Blues had not beaten the Canucks since April 16, 2013….
“It’s just part of the game”, said Virtanen.
Yannick Weber, with a cannon for a slap shot that helped him score 11 goals last season despite playing only 65 games, was once again held out of the lineup.
Just hockey, Virtanen maintained, though he took exception to the hit into the boards, prompting a discussion with a referee – and the Blues bench – at the stoppage.
“You’ve got to trust in what you do”, said Sedin.

“We have to have a better start”. There were 0-5 against St. Louis and are now 1-18 on the season.
The Canucks trailed 3-1 after two periods on Friday, but could do nothing with the two minutes 33 seconds left on Vladimir Tarasenko’s double minor for high sticking on a fresh sheet of ice to start the third. “We have a lot of pucks on our sticks, we are just not making the plays that we know we can”.
And Daniel went back to the vault with “Electric Worry” by Clutch-which the Canucks have used in the past. Blues goaltender Jake Allen was called on to make a few big saves late in the game when the Blues seemed to be running out of gas. “But you know, this is exactly why we signed up (Scottie) Upshall and (Scott) Gomez”.
Both of those players will be crucial pieces to the Blues season and if they are to repeat as Central Division champions of the Western Conference, they’ll need both to be at their best.
Hitchcock said his team was worn out at the end. LW Sven Baertschi was a healthy scratch….
ICE CHIPS: The Canucks play host to the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday night.
The son of Hall-of-Famer Peter Stastny, he has collected 177 goals and 332 assists in 617 career games with the Avalanche and Blues. Blues D Kevin Shattenkirk missed the game with a lower-body injury suffered in Thursday’s win against Calgary….
There has been no recent update on the health of Fabbri, who missed his third consecutive game with a concussion.
