Pope Francis visits Vatican homeless shelter
The Pope made the short journey from the Vatican to the centre, close to Rome’s Tiber River, at around 7 p.m. on October. 15.
Pope Francis discussed in a new interview topics ranging from his reasons for canonizing the parents of St. Therese of Lisieux, to his thoughts on whether there could be life on other planets. The 30 guests reportedly received Francis “with joy” and he spoke to each of them.

He was accompanied by his almoner (distributor of alms or charity), Monsignor Konrad Krajewski; the Jesuit superior general, the Rev. Adolfo Nicolas; and three nuns who work at the residence.
The Holy Father arrived at the Gift of Mercy shelter after the fifth day of the synod ended, and spent about half an hour with the people there.
In addition to the shelter, the Vatican now operates showers and a barber shop for the neighbourhood’s homeless.
