Gennady Golovkin vs. David Lemieux Preview & Prediction
My pick is WBA Super World, IBO and WBC interim champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, 33-0 (30) with his last 20 bouts ending in knockout!
Golovkin battered Lemieux around the ring Saturday night on the big stage at Madison Square Garden, landing punch after punch before the referee mercifully stepped in and stopped the fight in the eighth round.
After Floyd Mayweather retired following his September 12 win over Andre Berto, De La Hoya hailed the retirement by ripping his ex-rival and saying that Mayweather didn’t care about giving the fans exciting fights. “I’m thankful and feel blessed that I am able to fight, and I am ready to give the fans a good fight”. He told HBO’s Max Kellerman he was out to prove he’s a boxer too. He’s truly something else and he’s quickly taking over the sport of boxing.
For all the hype leading up to Gennady Golovkin-David Lemieux, fans and pundits can not be surprised that GGG administered such a comprehensive beat down.
That would change in rounds three and four as Lemieux became more active through head hunting.
Though Golovkin is a solid favourite, Lemieux is a feared puncher and very much a live dog.
This is going to be an interesting fight, as both fighters are terrific offensively, have knockout power and are willing to put the defense to the side at times in order to get their shots in play. Golovkin scored an eighth-round stoppage when referee Steve Willis jumped in to save Lemieux as Golovkin was unloading in the corner.
“What he’s trying to say is, I think he is the fighter in the fight”, Sanchez said.
Golovkin now waits how other middleweight contenders will fare in their fights in the next few months.
Golovkin apologetically retreated thereafter but the damage was done and the end was soon in sight as he attacked him to open the sixth round.
No big drama this time for Gennady Golovkin. Golovkin appeared to hit Lemieux with a straight right hand while he was down, but Willis didn’t deduct a point or warn Golovkin. Maybe a couple great champions come back…
In the pay-per-view opener, Tureano Johnson of the Bahamas twice knocked down Ireland’s Eamonn O’Kane in the first round en route to a unanimous-decision triumph. People in the United States understand my style and that’s unbelievable for me. There’s more attention on this fight than anything in my life. He also represented the United States at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. Duran also spoke about his excitement for the fantastic bouts schedule for the Golovkin vs. Lemieux undercard on Saturday, October 17.
“But David can punch, so it’s not like it’s going to be an easy fight”, he said. I respect my opponents. “I’m prepared to take the title from Roman”.
“Right now I’m going to focus on David Lemieux because he is a good fighter”.
Vilroia came out aggressively at the opening bell and immediately threw hard right hooks to the body and head of his opponent.
Viloria seemed to get the aggressive Gonzalez’s attention with a right hand early in the fourth round.
After a slow first round that Viloria clearly won, Gonzalez turned on the heat with his silky smooth and lethal punches.
