Two-time cancer survivor Jarrod Lyle returns to the PGA Tour this week
The Frys.com Open is the first tournament of the season meaning that most of the bigger golfers are still enjoying their offseason, so there will be a pretty weak field this week at Silverado Country Club. After grabbing three wins in the 2013-14 season, including two major championships, McIlroy only grabbed two wins last season, none of which were majors. Before this group of tournaments served as nearly an epilogue to the season, but since the Tour went to a wraparound schedule they actually now serve as a preamble to next year’s season.
Even though he lost his No. 1 ranking over the course of the year, with American Jordan Spieth and Australian Jason Day moving past him, McIlroy’s Northern California star certainly has added luster after the 26-year-old from Northern Ireland won the WGC World Match Play event at San Francisco’s TPC Harding Park in early May.
Robert Streb ($9,200) – Streb shot a 67 and a 67 here past year, but mixed those in with two 74s for a T31 finish.
In 2014, the 22-year-old played just one event. After a seven-week break, the Tour season will resume in January with the traditional swing through Hawaii before moving to the west coast. I will make Finau a pick this week at DraftKings. He is coming off a second-place finish in his last event. The Frys.com Open was held at the course last year for the first time, so last year’s results are really the only relevant ones for course history. He doesn’t necessarily rank high in any of the key stat categories I looked at, but a lot of that is because of a rough start to 2015. “Obviously, when you spend so much time with a guy like that, you want the best for him”.
Hideki Matsuyama ($10,800) – The third highest priced player this week at DraftKings is Matsuyama and deservingly so.
The Frys.com tourney signifies the start of the calendar year on the PGA Tour.
Launched in 2006, the Frys.com Open benefits many local and national charities. To have that in your back pocket for 12 months was nice, to know that it was there, regardless of how well or how poorly I played. Of course you need 6 golfers, so that will be on you to find at least one more golfer to include in your lineups… but I recommend finding around 10-15 golfers and trying to create a few lineups with those golfers at DraftKings for a better chance at winning if one golfer plays poorly.
