Payday 2 update adds microtransactions, and fans are delighted
“Payday 2” is now in the middle of its annual event, Crimefest, where developer Overkill Software releases free downloadable content to the game for ten days straight. All that is a moot point now that the Black Market update is dropping and allows players to pay for drills to crack safes and claim loot which can then either be kept for self use or traded through the Steam Workshop.
Inside the safes are random weapon skins that provide buff attributes, making the player better in a scrap.
It costs $2.50 to access the contents of the safes.
On the plus side, the game is now available for just £3.74 on Steam, which is 75% lower than its regular £14.99 asking price.
So yes, Payday 2 now features microtransactions.
“Rise like a Sputnik!” You need to check out the best shooters on PC.
“We’ve made it clear that Payday 2 will have no microtransactions whatsoever (shame on you if you thought otherwise!)” game producer Almir Listo said at the time.
“No. No. God, I hope not”, Goldfarb told GameSpot in 2013. “Never. No.” But Goldfarb has since left the studio, and it seems that Overkill have been eager to go against his previous comments, with the company now introducing paid, stat-boosting weapon skins that have enraged the game’s community.
Well, something has changed in the minds of the game masters and now microtransactions are a part of Payday 2.
