Trump answers Wallace’s toughest question about 9/11: HERE’S how I would have
Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump and Jeb Bush are sparring again over comments Trump made that appeared to criticize George W. Bush for 9/11.
Mr Trump’s comments came after Bloomberg’s Stephanie Ruhle asked him if he would be capable of comforting the nation in the event of a mass catastrophe like the 9/11 attacks or the 2012 shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
“When you talk about George Bush, I mean, say what you want, the World Trade Center came down during his time”, Trump told Bloomberg TV.
Republicans thought Bush would be a lock for the Republican presidential nomination, but his short temper, public gaffes, and rivalry with Donald Trump have hurt him immensely.
“With that being said, I’m not blaming George Bush”. “The World Trade Centre came down during his reign”.
“I am extremely, extremely tough on illegal immigration”, Trump said. “And so when people get to understand beyond what he says on the surface, what he really believes, they’ll see there’s nothing there or it’s not in line with what Republicans believe and our principles”.
Mr. Trump has since said he was not trying to specifically blame the former president – Jeb Bush’s older brother. “I think it’s going to be crystal clear and the people will make a clear decision”.
Bush also said he has little confidence in Trump’s ability to appropriately handle America’s nuclear weapons.
And Bush’s Central Intelligence Agency Director George Tenet “knew in advance that there would be an attack, and he said that”, Trump said. “Not boning up on the issues, not having a broad sense of the responsibilities of what it is to be a president”, Bush continued. “It somebody said, ‘Well, it wouldn’t have been any different, ‘ well, it would have been”.
When Bush allies talk about the former president’s national security legacy, they tend to stress what happened after 9/11, even though the terrorist attacks also happened during his presidency. “It doesn’t show that he’s not a serious person as it relates to being commander-in-chief and being the architect of a foreign policy”.
